How Boldfaced is committed to sustainability
Our Swedish Dishcloths and our packaging for them are 100% compostable. According to this study, a Swedish Dishcloth will take approximately 10 months to fully biodegrade and return back to nature. Simply place in your municipal or backyard compost bin.
Our Swedish dishcloth packaging is made out of a material called PLA. Polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable polyester made from renewable resources including corn starch, tapioca roots, or sugarcane. Within as little as a month, to up to two years, PLA will break down when exposed to the environment.
Our Beeswax Wraps are designed to replace wasteful, single-use plastic like cling wrap or sandwich bags. All our wraps are made with 100% cotton, organic beeswax, tree rosin and jojoba oil. Our wraps are completely compostable. You can cut them into strips and place in your compost bin, or you can use them as fire starter for bonfires and camping.
Our Handkerchiefs are designed to replace wasteful tissues that are indeed not compostable. From the Kleenex website: "Because the tissue is made with an additive to make it strong, it will not break down as rapidly as bathroom tissue. Therefore, we suggest you discard Kleenex® Tissue in the trash."
Our handkerchiefs are 100% cotton and can be reused over and over forever. Throw them in the wash at the end of the day to sanitize. Silkscreened by us here in Calgary, AB, we use water-based inks that will not fade over time.
We use noissue tissue paper which is made from cellulose fiber where the active acid pulp is eliminated during processing. It is also lignin- and sulfur-free, meaning that the soy ink won’t transfer from the tissue and the paper won’t leave behind any of these chemicals when decomposing. Our tissue paper has the following certifications:
Our kraft paper packing tape is made by Sticker Mule. Our water-activated tape (WAT) is made with 50% recycled paper. The starch-based adhesive easily dissolves and separates in the repulping process.
Our shipping boxes are from ULINE are made from corrugated cardboard. Like other paper products, corrugated boxes are made from wood pulp, which is a biodegradable substance. In an outdoor environment that’s at least mildly humid and in which typical outdoor bacteria are present, you can expect corrugated boxes to decompose thoroughly in approximately three months.
